Tokyo Daibutsu
9 December 2006
Not many people (even not here in tokyo) know that there is a "Daibutsu" (big Buddha statue) in Tokyo. This may be due to the fact that it is not as old as the ones in Nara or Kamakura (it is only 30 years or so), because it is not as tall (just over 8m instead of 11-13m) or because it is in Itabashi, which means it is quite far from the "city center".
Anyway, I knew about it since I visited the Itabashi website because of the fireworks event last summer. Megumi, the girlfriend of my ex-colleague Keiich Ito, lives in Itabashi (she also invited us for the fireworks) and when I mentioned it, she proposed to go there together as she had never been there yet. Unfortunately it was a rainy day, but we still had an enjoyable day.
